What’s On · November 2026
Summer racing in Australia is mostly about the start time
From late November the best races in Australia start in the dark. Beerwah at Daybreak in Queensland's Glass House Mountains sends its marathon off at 4am on Sunday 6 December, and the Bruny Island Ultra in Tasmania starts at 4am on Saturday 28 November, 64km from the northern tip of the island to the Cape Bruny Lighthouse.
If you'd rather go up than go early, the Mt Buller Sky Run on Sunday 6 December climbs from the village to the summit, with distances from 5km to a 45km loop past Craig's Hut.
And if you want a flat first marathon before the heat, the Western Sydney Lakes Marathon on Saturday 21 November loops the 2000 Olympic rowing lake at Penrith with no traffic and almost no hills.
The biggest trail weekend of the month is in the Snowy Mountains. Ultra-Trail Kosciuszko by UTMB starts at Friday Flat in Thredbo from Thursday 26 November, with the Kosci30, Kosci50, Kosci100 and the KosciMiler, which starts at 3am. Entry runs from $280 to $1,030.
Or skip the alarm and run through the night instead. The Narrabeen Allnighter in Sydney on Saturday 12 December has a marathon and 6 and 12-hour races on a flat lakeside loop, and Dusk to Dawn at Glenelg in Adelaide on Saturday 28 November runs 6 or 12 hours from 6pm.
