Course Description

The race is held entirely within the historic Nine Mile Camping Grounds at Cobb & Co, Tandur. Participants run a flat 6.7 km circuit that weaves through well‑maintained campground paths, grassy paddocks and a few light‑trail sections. The loop starts and finishes at a central hub, keeping runners, crew and spectators close to the action. Each hour a new lap begins, so pacing and recovery become key. The terrain is mostly easy‑grade, but the repetitive nature and the pressure of the hourly cutoff add a mental challenge that tests endurance and strategy.

Getting There

Cobb & Co Nine Mile Camping Grounds is accessed via the M1 Pacific Motorway (exit 135) then follow signs to Tandur. Free on‑site parking is available for participants. The nearest train station is Gympie (about 30 km away) with regular bus services to the campsite. Arrive at least 60 minutes before the first start to allow for registration and bib collection.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the Backyard Ultra format work?

Runners start a 6.7 km loop every hour. You must finish each loop before the next hour begins. The race continues until only one participant completes a loop, making them the Last One Standing.

What is the minimum age to compete?

There is no age restriction listed, but participants under 18 should have parental consent and be comfortable with the ultra‑endurance format.

Can I bring a support crew or have a personal aid station?

Support crews are allowed only in the start/finish area. All other assistance must be provided at the central aid station; no private aid stations on the loop.

What gear is mandatory on race day?

You must wear your bib visibly, carry a water bottle or hydration pack (minimum 500 ml), and have a mobile phone with emergency contacts. Sunscreen, a hat, and a light rain jacket are strongly recommended.

When and where do I collect my race bib?

Bib collection takes place at the campsite registration tent on race morning. Arrive early (at least 60 minutes before the 6:00 AM start) to pick up your bib and receive final race instructions.
