Course Description

The Wagga 5000 is run entirely on the Bill Jacobs Athletics Track (also known as Bill Jacob Athletics Centre) in Bourkelands, on Wagga Wagga's newly refurbished all-weather surface. Rather than one mass-start race, the event is split into 11 separate 5000m (12.5-lap) heats scheduled from 2:30pm through to around 9:00pm, each targeting a different finish-time band from roughly 45-55 minutes down to sub-17 minutes. Runners choose the heat closest to their goal pace when registering, so each race is run among athletes of similar ability. Being track-based, the course is completely flat with no elevation gain. Around the racing, the event runs as a community festival with local food, entertainment and post-run celebrations, open to first-time runners and experienced athletes alike.

Getting There

The venue is Bill Jacobs Athletics Track, Bourke Street, Bourkelands, on the southern edge of Wagga Wagga. The official event page doesn't publish specific parking or public transport details, so it's worth arriving in good time to find parking near the track and to check in before your heat.

Weather & What to Pack

Early November in Wagga Wagga sits in late spring, with race-day temperatures typically ranging from around 12°C overnight down to highs near 25-28°C, and the event running into the cooler evening. Days can be dry and sunny with occasional warm spells, so sun protection is worthwhile for daytime heats and a light layer for the later evening races. Check the forecast closer to the date, as spring weather in the Riverina can shift quickly.
