Event Details
Course Description
The race kicks off at the lake's boat ramp, where a 15‑km run follows rugged 4WD tracks alongside Lake William Hovell and the King River into Alpine National Park. After the first run, athletes paddle 12 km on the pristine lake, surrounded by mountain peaks. The 39‑km road ride traces the King River downstream, then climbs through Cheshunt and Whitfield toward Powers Lookout. A final 3.6‑km gravel run delivers a panoramic finish over the King Valley. The course blends trail, lake and road sections, offering varied terrain and spectacular views.
Getting There
From Melbourne, take the M31 to Wangaratta, then follow signs to Lake William Hovell (approx. 30 km north). Parking is free at the lake car‑park (limited spaces). Public buses run to Wangaratta; a taxi or rideshare from there is the easiest option. Arrive at least 30 minutes before registration opens at 8:00 AM.

Weather & What to Pack
November is spring in Victoria, so expect mild to warm days with temperatures between 12 °C and 22 °C. Light showers are possible, and sunshine can be strong. Dress in layers – a breathable long‑sleeve top, shorts or leggings, and a lightweight waterproof jacket. Sunscreen, a hat and plenty of water are essential, as the sun can be intense even in spring.
