Two South Australian halves by the water, a week apart
Mount Gambier's Blue Lake Fun Run on Sunday 29 November starts at the Cave Gardens in the middle of town and runs out to the Blue Lake, the volcanic crater lake that turns its brightest blue in summer. The 10.4km and 6.8km courses take in a lap of the lake. The half adds a second lap and a stretch of the Rail Trail.
It's all sealed road but it isn't flat: there's 50m to 305m of climbing depending on the distance, and the half starts at 7:15am. Come for the lake, not for a time.
A week later, the Victor Harbor Half Marathon on Sunday 6 December is the opposite: flat, paved and round Encounter Bay from Warland Reserve, starting at 7am, with a 10K and 5K the same morning. If you want a fast half before Christmas, this is the one.
If you'd rather run through the night, Dusk to Dawn at Glenelg on Saturday 28 November is a flat 2.56km loop beside the Patawalonga Creek, repeated for 6 or 12 hours from 6pm. One aid station at the start and finish, a lot of laps, and you'll know every palm tree by midnight.
Then for the week before Christmas, Port Loop Coastal on Sunday 20 December is a measured, flat loop round Port Adelaide's Inner Harbour, over the Birkenhead and Jervois bridges. The 5km, 10km and half all start at 7am, and it's a Run Red event, so wear something red.
