Course Description

The race begins at Village Square in the heart of Mount Buller Village. The 5km route climbs from the square to the summit and returns, offering a quick taste of alpine terrain. The 22km course is an out‑and‑back from the village to Mount Sterling and back, traversing snow‑gum forests and ridge lines. The 36km loop heads to Mount Sterling, descends to Mirimbah Park, then tackles the iconic Klingsporn Bridal Track for a final ascent to the summit before returning to the village. The flagship 45km Ultra follows a classic Vic Alps circuit, looping over Mount Sterling, passing the historic Craig’s Hut from the Man From Snowy River, and delivering sweeping views of the Victorian Alps. All routes feature a mix of steep ascents, flowing single‑track descents and spectacular alpine vistas.

Weather & What to Pack

December is summer in Australia, but Mount Buller’s alpine altitude keeps temperatures cool, typically ranging from 8 °C in the morning to 18 °C at midday, with occasional afternoon showers. Expect strong sun on clear days, so wear sun protection and bring a lightweight wind‑proof layer for cooler breezes. Stay hydrated and carry a small water bottle or use the aid stations along the course.
