About This Event
Annual community trail running event through the scenic Adelaide Hills, raising funds for Operation Flinders and local youth charities. The course follows fire tracks, vineyard trails and bushland to Mt Barker Summit.
Course Description
Conquer the Summit offers a challenging yet rewarding journey through the stunning Adelaide Hills. Starting at Summit Sport and Recreation Park, runners complete 1.5 laps of the oval before heading into the surrounding rural landscape. The course winds through a diverse mix of roadside paths, fire tracks, vineyard trails and bushland terrain, making it ideal for those who enjoy varied running surfaces. Half marathon runners tackle the full ascent to Mt Barker Summit, where a celebratory bell awaits at the peak. The route passes scenic Ngeringa Vineyards and offers opportunities to spot local wildlife including kangaroos and echidnas. The 5km course follows the same trail to the vineyards before turning back, whilst the quarter marathon provides a middle-ground challenge for those building endurance.
Quick Facts
Getting There
Summit Sport and Recreation Park is located in Mt Barker, approximately 30km southeast of Adelaide CBD. Parking is available at the venue with easy access from Main Road (Route 1). Allow 40 minutes drive from central Adelaide via the South Eastern Freeway. Arrive by 7:00-7:30 AM for bib collection if you haven't collected beforehand, and to allow time for parking and warm-up. Public transport options are limited; driving is recommended.
Weather & What to Pack
Late March in the Adelaide Hills typically offers pleasant autumn conditions with daytime temperatures ranging from 16-24°C. Mornings can be cool (10-14°C at 8am start), warming up as the sun rises over the hills. The elevated terrain means conditions can be slightly cooler and breezier than Adelaide city. Dress in breathable layers you can shed during the run. Sun protection is essential - apply sunscreen and consider a cap for the exposed fire track sections. Bring your own drinking vessel for the cup-free water stations, and hydrate well before race day.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this a cup-free event?
Yes! Conquer the Summit is completely cup-free for environmental sustainability. You must bring your own drinking vessel (drink bottle, soft flask, etc.). Volunteers will help refill it at water stations along the course.
When should I register to get my name on my bib?
Register online by midnight Sunday 1st March 2026 to save on registration fees AND get your first name (or chosen nickname) printed on your race bib. Late registrations are available at collection points and on race day but won't include personalised bibs.
What is the half marathon cut-off time?
Participants who reach the halfway point (10.55km) in more than 90 minutes will be asked to assess their ability to safely complete the course. Those continuing beyond this point may have reduced course support, and finish-line timing and medals cannot be guaranteed.
Can children participate?
Absolutely! The new Kids' Dash (U12s) is an untimed two-lap event around the oval. Juniors aged 5-16 can enter the 5km and 10.55km events at reduced rates. The 21.1km is only open to experienced U16 runners with committee approval - contact the race director.
Where do my entry fees go?
Thanks to generous sponsors and volunteers, 100% of entry fees go directly to Operation Flinders and other local charities supporting youth in the Adelaide Hills. This is a major fundraiser for Mt Barker Lions and Rotary Clubs.
