Course Description

All courses start at the Monarto Safari Park Visitor Centre before the park opens to the public, offering rare glimpses of giraffes, rhinos and meerkats. Runners then head onto the Lavender Federation Trail, winding through open grasslands and river flats, before entering the rolling terrain of Kinchina Conservation Park. The 56 km ultra continues deep into the park before descending to the Murray Bridge riverfront, finishing at Sturt Reserve. Shorter distances (54 km, 35 km, 26 km) follow the same route with fewer loops, while the 10 km and 5 km loops stay entirely within the park. Aid stations are spaced roughly every 10‑12 km, providing water, electrolytes and snacks.

Getting There

The race starts at the Monarto Safari Park Visitor Centre on Monarto Road, Monarto (approximately 78 km east‑south‑east of Adelaide). Parking is available at the park and nearby facilities. Public transport options and exact directions are not listed on the site – please visit the official event website for the latest information and to confirm arrival times.

Weather & What to Pack

August is winter in South Australia. In Murray Bridge daytime highs average around 18 °C with overnight lows near 6 °C. Expect cool, dry conditions and clear skies. Dress in layers – a breathable base, insulating mid‑layer and wind‑proof jacket – plus a hat and gloves for early‑morning starts. Stay hydrated; even cool weather can dehydrate, so carry water or use the aid stations.
