Course Description

The Barossa Marathon Festival offers a flat, fast road course that starts and finishes on Magnolia Road in front of The Rex Aquatic Centre. Runners will follow a scenic route winding through the rolling vineyards and historic towns of the Barossa Valley, providing plenty of wine‑country views. The course is fully supported with six personal drink stations, and the race village at the Aquatic Centre gives access to toilets, showers, a basketball court for bib collection, merchandise sales, bag drop, and a canteen serving hot and cold beverages and light meals. With distances ranging from 5 km to the full marathon, the event caters to both beginners and seasoned athletes looking for a fast, enjoyable run.

Getting There

Parking on race morning is available via Barossa Valley Way along Magnolia Rd or on Neldner Rd, though spaces are limited. SARRC provides a shuttle from North Adelaide, departing MacKinnon Parade at 5:30 AM and 6:00 AM, with returns after the race. For detailed transport options and parking updates, visit the official event website.

Weather & What to Pack

August is winter in South Australia, so expect cool mornings and mild afternoons. Typical Barossa Valley temperatures range from 5 °C to 15 °C, with occasional sunshine and low humidity. Dress in layers – a moisture‑wicking base, a light jacket or fleece, and consider a hat and gloves for early starts. Stay hydrated, as cooler weather can still lead to dehydration. A warm drink before the start can help, and a water bottle at the drink stations will keep you refreshed.

What facilities are available at the race village?

The Rex Aquatic Centre provides full use of toilet and shower facilities, a basketball court for bib collection, merchandise sales and bag drop, and a canteen offering hot and cold beverages and light meals throughout the event.

How can I get to the venue and where can I park?

Race-day parking access is from Menge Road (via Bethany Road to avoid closures); parking at the Rex is limited, so SARRC recommends carpooling. SARRC also runs a return bus service from its clubrooms on MacKinnon Parade, North Adelaide, departing 5:30 AM and 6:00 AM ($25 return, addable to entry). See the official site for full details.

Marathon participants may leave a personal drink at any of six designated stations. Mark your bottle with your bib number and the chosen station, and it will be ready for you at the appropriate point on the course.

What should I wear for the race in August?

Winter in South Australia brings cool temperatures (5–15 °C). Wear moisture‑wicking layers, a light jacket or fleece, and consider a hat and gloves for early starts. Even in cooler weather, stay hydrated and use the drink stations along the route.
