About This Event

ACT Masters Athletics event for runners and walkers aged 30+. Part of the ACT masters athletics calendar offering competitive and social running opportunities.

Course Description

The Mt Majura Run/Walk Handicap offers participants a choice of forest and trail routes through one of Canberra's most accessible nature reserves. Runners can tackle either the short course (approximately 5km) or the more challenging long course (around 10km), whilst walkers enjoy the short course route. The terrain features natural bush trails with moderate elevation changes, providing scenic views across Canberra's northern suburbs. The handicap format levels the playing field, making this an inclusive event where improvement and consistent performance are rewarded. Expect well-marked trails through eucalyptus forest, with a mix of fire trails and single track that showcase the reserve's natural beauty whilst testing your hill-running technique.

Alternatively, access the reserve from the Federal Highway side near the CSIRO. Public transport users can catch buses to Dickson or Watson and walk approximately 15-20 minutes to the reserve entrance. Arrive at least 20 minutes early to allow time for parking, warm-up, and registration.

Weather & What to Pack

Late April in Canberra typically sees autumn conditions with cool to mild temperatures ranging from 8-20°C. Mornings can be crisp, so layer up with a long-sleeve top or light jacket for warm-up, which you can remove before the start. The sun may be strong at altitude, so consider sunscreen and a cap. Conditions are generally dry, though be prepared for occasional showers. The forest trails provide natural shade, making it comfortable for running. Pack layers for after the race when you cool down quickly in the morning air.
