About This Event
Memory Walk & Jog is Dementia Australia's annual fundraising event bringing communities together to raise awareness and funds for dementia support services. Participants can walk or jog at their own pace, with distances suitable for all fitness levels.
Course Description
The Memory Walk & Jog Adelaide course takes participants along the stunning Glenelg foreshore, starting from the picturesque Wigley Reserve. The flat, accessible routes are perfect for all fitness levels, with participants enjoying coastal views and the refreshing sea breeze throughout. The 3km walk offers a gentle introduction, whilst the 6.5km walk/jog provides a moderate challenge along the beachfront promenade. Both 10km options follow a scenic out-and-back route that showcases Adelaide's beautiful coastline. The courses are entirely on sealed paths and roads, making them wheelchair and pram-friendly. The atmosphere is supportive and inclusive, with participants encouraged to dress up, bring family and friends, and even bring their four-legged companions to honour loved ones affected by dementia.
Quick Facts
Getting There
Wigley Reserve is located on the Glenelg foreshore, easily accessible via Jetty Road. Street parking is available along the foreshore and surrounding streets, though it can be busy on weekends. The Glenelg Tram provides excellent public transport access from Adelaide city centre, with the Broadway stop just a short walk from the reserve. Plan to arrive at least 30 minutes before the 7:30 AM start to collect your race number and warm up.
Weather & What to Pack
Mid-March in Adelaide typically brings mild autumn weather, with morning temperatures ranging from 15-18°C at the 7:30 AM start, warming to 22-26°C by mid-morning. The coastal location means you'll likely experience a refreshing sea breeze, which can feel cooler than inland temperatures. Dress in layers you can remove as you warm up, and apply sunscreen as UV levels remain moderate to high. With low humidity and generally clear skies, it's ideal running weather, though bring a light jacket for the early morning start. Stay well-hydrated before and during the event.
