About This Event

16th annual fitness challenge fundraiser for Our Kids charity to purchase paediatric equipment for Lismore Base Hospital. Four-person teams tackle nine gruelling challenges including farmers walk, prowler push, tyre flip, burpees, running, swimming, sled pull and obstacle course. Solo, Team, Teen and Kids events.

Course Description

The Samson Fitness Challenge at Hepburn Park in Goonellabah delivers one of Australia's most demanding charity fitness events. Four-person teams tackle nine brutal challenges including farmers walks with jerry cans, prowler pushes, 130kg truck tyre flips, burpee challenges, double 2km runs, 1km swim, sled pulls, and a gruelling obstacle course finale. The event transforms Hepburn Park into a functional fitness battleground where strength meets endurance. Solo competitors on Friday night face the same challenges individually, testing their mental fortitude and physical limits. Teen and kids events offer scaled versions appropriate for younger athletes. Every repetition, every metre covered raises vital funds for paediatric equipment at Lismore Base Hospital through the Our Kids charity.

Getting There

Hepburn Park is located on Holland Street in Goonellabah, approximately 5km south of Lismore CBD. Take the Bruxner Highway and turn onto Holland Street. Ample parking is available at the park, though arrive early on Saturday morning as the event draws significant crowds. The venue is well-signposted on event days. For Solo competitors on Friday evening, aim to arrive by 4:30 PM for registration and briefing. Team competitors should arrive 45 minutes before their allocated staggered start time.

Weather & What to Pack

Early March in Lismore typically brings warm, humid conditions with temperatures ranging from 19-28°C. As a coastal Northern NSW location, expect high humidity and potential for afternoon storms. The Friday evening Solo event benefits from cooler temperatures, while Saturday's team events face full sun exposure. Wear moisture-wicking clothing and apply sunscreen liberally. Hydration is critical - the combination of physical exertion, humidity, and direct sun can be dehydrating. Bring a hat and sunglasses for transitions between challenges. Check forecasts beforehand as tropical weather patterns can be unpredictable.

Frequently Asked Questions

What fitness level do I need for the Team Samson?

This is an extremely demanding event requiring high functional fitness levels. Teams should be comfortable with heavy lifting (130kg tyre flips), running 4km total, swimming 1km, and completing obstacle courses under fatigue. Training together as a team is highly recommended.

Can I register on the day?

No, registrations close on 27 February at midnight due to timing requirements. Early bird registration ($360) closes 14 January, normal registration ($420) runs 15 January to 14 February, and late registration ($450) runs 20-27 February. Solo spots are limited and close 6 March at 5:00 PM.

What are the age requirements for different events?

Team Samson and Solo Challenge are 16+ only. Teen Sprint is for ages 14-15 (by 1 March 2025). Junior categories are for ages 16-18 (by 31 December 2025). Kids events have separate age divisions. Check the website for specific category breakdowns including Masters (40+) and Platinum (45-50+) divisions.

What should I bring on race day?

Bring your signed waiver (mandatory), team uniform or matching shirts, running shoes with good grip, swim goggles and towel, water bottles, sunscreen, and energy snacks. Teams should bring their own functional fitness gloves for tyre flips and farmers carries. All major equipment is provided by the event.

How does the charity component work?

The Samson Challenge has raised over $200,000 for Our Kids charity, which purchases paediatric equipment for Lismore Base Hospital's Children's Ward and Special Care Nursery. Your entry fee contributes directly to this cause, and teams are encouraged to seek additional sponsorships to maximise fundraising impact.
