Course Description

The Sri Chinmoy 100km Road Race takes place on a fast, scenic AIMS-certified 5km loop course around Lake Burley Griffin in the heart of Canberra. Runners tackle 20 laps (or 10 laps for the 50km) on smooth, flat shared pathways through Commonwealth Park and past Acton West Beach. This IAU Bronze Label event starts at 5pm to avoid summer heat and runs through the night, with participants enjoying lakeside views under the stars. Two well-stocked aid stations per lap provide water, sports drink, fruit, and hot food through the night. The course features state-of-the-art electronic timing and offers both solo and relay team formats, making it ideal for those chasing the AUTRA National 100km Championship title or tackling their first ultra distance.

Getting There

Commonwealth Park is located in central Canberra along Lake Burley Griffin, easily accessible from the city centre. Parking is available in and around Commonwealth Park and nearby Henry Rolland Park. The venue is well-served by public transport with several bus routes stopping near Commonwealth Avenue. Arrive at least 30-45 minutes before the 5pm start to collect your race number, set up crew support areas, and use facilities before the race begins.

Weather & What to Pack

Late February in Canberra brings warm to hot daytime temperatures (20-30°C), which is why this race starts at 5pm to avoid the heat. Overnight temperatures typically drop to 12-18°C, making for comfortable running conditions through the night. Pack layers for the temperature change, including a light jacket or arm warmers for the cooler pre-dawn hours. Humidity is generally moderate. While the night start reduces heat stress, stay on top of hydration throughout the race. A headlamp is essential for night running, and sunscreen may be needed if you're still on course after sunrise.
