Weather & What to Pack

Late February in Wilsons Promontory typically brings warm summer conditions with temperatures ranging from 15-25°C, though coastal areas can be significantly cooler. The exposed coastal sections and beach running can mean strong winds and sun exposure. Mornings start cool, warming considerably by midday. Pack sun protection, including hat and sunscreen. Carry adequate hydration for your chosen distance - remote sections have limited water access. Weather can change rapidly in the Prom, so be prepared for potential rain or wind, particularly on exposed ridgeline sections like Mt Oberon.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this course marked?

No, Run the Lighthouse features unmarked courses requiring self-navigation using maps or GPS apps. Download the Tracker App beforehand and study the course maps carefully. This adds an adventure element but requires concentration and navigation skills, particularly for the 50km and 75km distances.

What mandatory gear do I need?

All participants must complete a gear check before racing. Mandatory items vary by distance and will be detailed in the runners' information PDF released closer to the event. Incomplete gear results in no race start, so prepare carefully and arrive early for your designated gear check time.

Can I register on the day?

Yes, race day registration is available, but prices are up to 15% higher than late fees due to additional admin costs. Pre-registration is strongly recommended to save money and guarantee your entry.

Are there aid stations on course?

Course support details will be provided in the 2026 runners' information PDF closer to the event. For the longer 50km and 75km distances, you'll need to be self-sufficient in remote sections, so plan your hydration and nutrition strategy accordingly.

Do I need trail running experience?

The 6km is suitable for newcomers, but the 21km and 42km require moderate trail experience. The 50km and 75km demand significant trail running experience and navigation ability to ensure you can complete the remote courses safely. Assess your fitness and skills honestly before choosing your distance.
