Course Description

The BTC Triathlon Series Race 3 takes place on a scenic, traffic-free course at Middle Head in Mosman. Begin with a 400m swim in the sheltered waters of Obelisk Beach, protected from ocean swells. The 15km bike leg consists of five laps around Chowder Bay Road, offering harbour views and a safe environment for cyclists of all abilities. Finish with a 4km run through the historical barracks and beautiful bushland of Middle Head Reserve, combining paved roads with bush tracks. This course offers a perfect blend of coastal beauty and challenge, making it ideal for both beginners testing their first triathlon and experienced athletes seeking a quality training race.

Getting There

The race is located at Obelisk Beach, Middle Head, Mosman. From Sydney CBD, take Military Road north through Mosman, then turn onto Middle Head Road. Street parking is available around Middle Head Reserve and Chowder Bay. Public transport users can take buses to Mosman Junction, then walk approximately 2km to the venue. Arrive at least 45 minutes before your start time to allow for registration, transition setup, and course familiarisation.

Weather & What to Pack

Early February in Sydney brings warm summer conditions with average temperatures ranging from 19-27°C. Expect humid conditions with plenty of sunshine, though afternoon storms are possible. The morning start helps avoid peak heat. The swim water temperature will be pleasant at around 22-24°C. Bring sunscreen, a hat for pre-race, and ensure adequate hydration throughout. The combination of humidity and exertion means you'll need to drink regularly during and after the race. Consider light-coloured, breathable tri-suit or race clothing.
