Event Details
Course Description
The Eastern Triathlon Series Race 2 takes place at the renowned Heffron Park Crit Course in Maroubra, one of Sydney's premier criterium circuits. Athletes begin with a swim at Des Renford Leisure Centre pool before transitioning to the closed-road criterium course for the bike leg, featuring smooth tarmac and technical corners that reward skilled bike handling. The run leg utilises the parkland surrounds, offering a relatively flat and fast course. This urban triathlon combines the challenge of a technical bike course with the accessibility of pool swimming, making it ideal for both first-timers testing the waters with the Enticer distance and experienced athletes pushing for podium positions in the competitive Sprint category.
Getting There
Heffron Park is located in Maroubra, easily accessible via Anzac Parade. Street parking is available on surrounding streets including Boonara Avenue and Fitzgerald Avenue, though arrive early on race day as spaces fill quickly. Public transport options include buses along Anzac Parade (routes 391, 393, 394, 395, 396, 397) with stops within walking distance of the venue. The race is based outside Des Renford Leisure Centre. Plan to arrive at least 60 minutes before your wave start for registration, transition setup, and race briefing.
Weather & What to Pack
Early February in Sydney typically brings warm summer conditions with average temperatures ranging from 19-26°C. Morning race starts offer cooler conditions, though humidity can be high (60-75%). Expect clear skies with occasional coastal breezes at Maroubra. Sun protection is essential - apply sunscreen before the race and consider a race cap for the run. The pool swim eliminates ocean conditions concerns. Stay well hydrated in the days leading up to the event, and take advantage of aid stations during the race. Light, breathable tri-suits or running gear work best in these conditions.

Official WebsiteFrequently Asked Questions
Is this race suitable for first-time triathletes?
Absolutely! The Enticer distance (400m swim / 10km bike / 2.5km run) is specifically designed for beginners. The pool swim eliminates open-water concerns, and the closed criterium course provides a safe environment. The BRAT Club team offers pre-race tips and support for first-timers.
What equipment do I need?
You'll need a roadworthy bike, approved helmet, swimwear, running shoes, and race number belt. Wetsuits are not required for pool swimming. The transition area will be set up for you to organise your gear between disciplines. Check the official website for specific equipment regulations.
How does the Series scoring work?
Points are awarded based on finishing position in each race (1st place = 20 points, 2nd = 19 points, etc.). Every finisher earns at least 1 point. You can race in all four events or just one - points accumulate across the Series to crown overall male and female Series winners.
Are there prizes?
Yes! Cash prizes totalling $600 are awarded to overall 1st-3rd place male and female finishers, plus numerous raffle-drawn sponsored prizes that anyone can win. The professional timing system provides instant results and live tracking for spectators.
Can I race if I'm not a BRAT Club or TriAus member?
Yes, the Eastern Triathlon Series is open to everyone regardless of club affiliation. Non-TriAus members pay a slightly higher entry fee ($62.50 for Sprint, $54.50 for Enticer) compared to TriAus members ($50).
