Course Description

The Uni Loop is Adelaide's iconic 2.2km fast, flat circuit around Warnpangga (Park 10), just north of the River Torrens. This 'frypan-shaped' loop starts at the 0-metre mark on Mackinnon Parade, heading west towards Adelaide Oval for 600m before arcing left past Adelaide Zoo. The course features a gentle downhill section at the 1200m mark followed by a 200m climb, with the final 600m being completely flat—perfect for fast finishers chasing a PB. Chip timing ensures accurate results on this uninterrupted loop that's been the training ground for generations of elite athletes and fun runners alike.

Getting There

The start line is located at the eastern corner of Mackinnon Parade on Park 10 in North Adelaide, directly across from Adelaide Oval. Street parking is available along Mackinnon Parade and War Memorial Drive. Public transport users can catch buses to North Adelaide or walk from Adelaide CBD (15 minutes). The venue is also accessible via the Park Lands Trail for cyclists. Arrive by 6:00 PM to collect your race number and complete warm-up before the 6:30 PM start.

Weather & What to Pack

Mid-January in Adelaide brings warm summer evenings with temperatures typically ranging from 18-28°C at 6:30 PM. Expect dry conditions with moderate humidity and extended daylight hours. The evening start time provides relief from the day's peak heat, but UV levels remain high. Wear light, breathable running gear and a cap. Apply sunscreen before the race and ensure you're well-hydrated throughout the day. The flat, exposed course offers little shade, so prepare for full sun exposure during your run.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the seeded heat system work?

Runners are placed into heats of approximately 10 athletes based on submitted seed times. Each heat runs individually with one finishing before the next begins. The two fastest heats are designated as elite races. This ensures you're racing against similarly paced runners for a competitive experience.

When does registration close?

Registration closes at 7:00 AM on Monday, 12 January 2026. Early bird pricing is available until 20 October 2025, with standard pricing through 9 January 2026 and late entries from 10-11 January 2026.

What do I receive for entering?

All finishers receive a custom finisher pin and chip-timed official results for the Uni Loop. Prizes are awarded to top 3 male and female elite athletes, fastest to the 1000m mark, top 3 U18 athletes, and top masters athletes.

Is this suitable for junior runners?

Absolutely! There's a dedicated Junior U18 category with separate prizes for top 3 male and female athletes. The 2.2km distance is ideal for developing runners, and the seeded heat format means juniors run in appropriate pace groups.

What should I bring on race day?

Bring your race confirmation, running shoes suitable for road surfaces, and your race number (collected on arrival). Hydration stations may be limited for this short distance, so pre-hydrate well. Timing is chip-based, provided by SA Road Runners Club.
