Course Description

The Wollongong Running Festival courses all start and finish on Marine Drive, the iconic coastal road that hugs the Pacific Ocean. Runners of the 10km and half‑marathon follow a flat, paved route that weaves past the historic Wollongong Harbour, the vibrant North Beach promenade and the lush Wollongong Botanic Garden. The 5km course adds a short loop through the university precinct, while the 2km kids Fun Run stays on the beachfront promenade, offering a safe, traffic‑free environment. Expect sea breezes, spectacular ocean views and occasional undulating sections through parkland that test endurance without steep climbs. Aid stations are positioned at regular intervals, providing water, sports drinks and first‑aid support. The course is fully chip‑timed for accurate results.

Getting There

The race starts and finishes on Marine Drive in Wollongong’s city centre. Public transport options include regular train services to Wollongong Station (about a 10‑minute walk to the start) and local buses that stop near the waterfront. Parking is available in nearby council car parks; check the event website for exact locations and fees. Arrive early to allow time for bib collection and warm‑up.

Weather & What to Pack

June is winter in Australia, and Wollongong enjoys mild coastal conditions. Typical daytime highs reach around 18 °C, while evenings can drop to about 10 °C. Rainfall is minimal (≈1 mm) and humidity is moderate, so you’ll likely experience crisp sea breezes. Dress in layers – a breathable base, a warm mid‑layer and a wind‑proof jacket – and consider a hat or gloves for early‑morning runs. Even in cooler weather, stay hydrated with water or sports drinks at the aid stations.
