Event Details
Course Description
The Deep Creek Backyard Ultra takes place on a single 6.7 km loop deep within Cairncross State Forest, Pembrooke. Each lap climbs roughly 125 m of elevation, weaving through towering eucalypts, fern‑lined gullies and open ridge lines that showcase the forest’s natural beauty. The course is fully marked and starts at the race hub, with runners returning after each hour‑long loop to refuel and rest. There are no aid stations on the trail itself, so the challenge is as much about pacing as it is about endurance. Nightfall adds a quiet, atmospheric twist as headlamps illuminate the path. The loop repeats until only one competitor completes a lap, making every return to the hub a test of mental grit and physical stamina.
Getting There
From Port Macquarie, follow Pembrooke Village Road to Cairncross State Forest, avoiding Reid's Road. After passing the orange trees on your right, continue into the forest; the car park is about 400 m further on. Park off the road as far back as possible, leaving space for a truck to navigate between cars. For detailed parking and public transport info, visit the official website.

Official WebsiteFrequently Asked Questions
How do I register and what is the entry fee?
Registrations opened on 1 July 2026 via the event website. The standard entry fee is $200 (tiers of $150–$200 are also offered). Your entry includes race numbers, a fully marked course, timing and access to the hub. For the latest registration details, visit the official site.
What is the race format and how are the loops timed?
The Ultra uses a Backyard Ultra format: a 6.7 km loop starts at 7:00 am, and each lap must be completed within the hour. After finishing a loop you return to the hub for the remainder of the hour to rest, refuel and prepare for the next start. The event continues until only one runner completes a lap.
What mandatory gear must I carry on the course?
All runners must carry a mobile phone, a headlight with spare batteries, and a snake‑compression bandage (minimum 7.5 cm × 2.3 m unstretched). These items are checked before the start and must be on you for the entire race.
Can I have a support crew and what facilities are provided at the hub?
Yes – you may set up a 3 m × 3 m tent in the race hub for your crew. The hub offers a basic aid station with water, electrolytes, chips and lollies, plus a 24‑hour food trailer. Your crew can manage nutrition, gear and motivation between loops.
What is the refund or cancellation policy?
If you cancel before 30 July 2026 23:59 (UTC) you receive a 50 % refund. No refunds are given after that deadline. If the event is cancelled due to a natural disaster, no refunds are provided; if postponed, entries will be transferred to the new date.
