Course Description

The RunTheRoos Marathon follows a flat, traffic‑free road that links the small towns of Lameroo and Pinnaroo across South Australia's Southern Mallee. Runners will travel along wide, paved highways bordered by endless paddocks, golden grain fields and historic silos, offering a clean, uninterrupted rhythm. The marathon covers 42 km, the half‑marathon 21 km, with a 10 km Fun Run and a 2 km Kids Run for families. With no hills or traffic lights, the course is designed for fast times and personal bests, while the open country air and clear winter skies provide a refreshing backdrop. Aid stations are positioned at regular intervals, and the route is fully supported by local volunteers and farmers who line the track with encouragement.

Weather & What to Pack

July is winter in South Australia, so expect cool daytime temperatures ranging from 5 °C to 15 °C, with crisp mornings and low humidity. Clear skies are common, though occasional light rain can occur. Dress in layers – a moisture‑wicking base, a warm mid‑layer and a wind‑proof jacket if needed. A hat, gloves and a buff can help keep you comfortable. Stay hydrated, but you’ll likely need less water than in hotter months. Check the forecast before you head out.

Frequently Asked Questions

When will registration open and how can I sign up?

Registration is not yet open. The website currently displays 'Sign Up – Coming Soon!'. Keep checking the official RunTheRoos website for the opening date and online registration details.

What time does the race start?

Start times for each distance have not been announced. Please refer to the official event website closer to the date for the exact start time.

What should I bring on race day?

Bring a valid photo ID, your race bib (once issued), comfortable running shoes and weather‑appropriate clothing. For the 2 km Kids Run, parents should bring a water bottle and a hat for their child. Strollers are not recommended on the course; check the official site for any specific rules.

Is the course suitable for beginners?

Yes – the flat, traffic‑free paved roads make the 10 km Fun Run and 2 km Kids Run very beginner‑friendly. The marathon and half‑marathon are longer and more demanding, so adequate training is advised.

What if the weather is bad on race day?

July in the Southern Mallee usually brings clear, cool conditions, but rain can occur. The race will continue on the paved road surface; runners should wear appropriate footwear and consider a waterproof layer. Stay updated via the official website for any weather‑related announcements.
