Getting There

Bright is located in Victoria's Alpine region, approximately 3 hours northeast of Melbourne via the Great Alpine Road. The race starts from Bright P-12 College in the centre of town, easily accessible from the main street. Ample parking is available at the school and surrounding streets. Arrive at least 45 minutes before your race start to collect your race number, warm up, and soak in the festival atmosphere. Public transport options are limited, so driving or carpooling is recommended.

Weather & What to Pack

Late April in Bright brings beautiful autumn conditions, with crisp mornings perfect for trail running. Expect temperatures between 8-20°C, with cool starts warming to pleasant mid-morning conditions. The high country weather can be unpredictable, so pack layers you can shed as you warm up. Trail shoes with good grip are essential for the varied terrain. Morning dew may make tracks slippery early on. The stunning autumn foliage creates a magical backdrop, though the sun can be intense once it rises above the mountains. Bring sunscreen and a hat for post-race celebrations.

Frequently Asked Questions

When do registrations open for 2026?

Registrations are opening soon for the 2026 event. Keep an eye on the official website and social media channels for the announcement. Given the event's popularity (400 runners in 2025), early registration is recommended.

What type of shoes should I wear?

Trail running shoes with good grip are essential for all distances. The courses feature natural trails, tracks, and potentially muddy sections, so road shoes won't provide adequate traction. The 18km course is particularly technical and requires proper trail footwear.

Is there a cut-off time for the longer distances?

Specific cut-off times will be announced closer to race day. The 18km HVP Plantations Trail Race is described as a 'true mountain challenge', so allow adequate time for the technical terrain and elevation gain. Check the official website for updated course information.

What facilities are available on race day?

The event village features coffee from Sixpence Coffee, a BBQ and bake sale by Bright P-12 College, activities for kids including temporary tattoos and yard games, and music from DJ Beauy. It's a full community celebration with plenty to enjoy before and after your race.

Can I bring my family if they're not running?

Absolutely! The Bright Fun Run is a community event perfect for spectators. Kids can enjoy the novelty races (sack races, egg-and-spoon), and the festival village offers entertainment, food, and activities for all ages. It's a great family day out in the mountains.
