Quick Facts
Getting There
Ballarat Town Hall is located on Sturt Street in the heart of Ballarat's CBD, approximately 115km west of Melbourne. Street parking is available throughout the city centre, with several car parks nearby including the Civic Hall Car Park. V/Line trains run regularly from Melbourne's Southern Cross Station to Ballarat Station (90 minutes), which is a 10-minute walk to the start line. Arrive at least 45 minutes before your race start time to allow for bib collection and warm-up.
Weather & What to Pack
Late April in Ballarat brings cool to mild autumn conditions, with morning temperatures typically ranging from 5-12°C, warming to 14-18°C by midday. Mornings can be crisp and foggy, so dress in layers you can shed as you warm up. Being an inland city at 435m elevation, Ballarat can be cooler than Melbourne, with occasional frost possible. Pack arm warmers or a light long-sleeve top for the early start. Conditions are generally excellent for running, with lower humidity than summer months. Light rain is possible, so check the forecast and pack a disposable rain jacket if needed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this race suitable for first-time marathon runners?
Absolutely. The Ballarat Marathon's flat, well-marked course and strong community support make it ideal for debut marathoners. As a World Athletics sanctioned race, it also serves as a Boston Marathon qualifier, giving you a recognised time for future race entries.
What time does bib collection open?
Bib collection opens at the Ballarat Town Hall from 6:30 AM on race morning for all events. The Mile race has a later start time of 2:00 PM, so participants can collect bibs throughout the day. Check the official website closer to the event for any pre-race expo details.
Are there aid stations on the course?
Yes, aid stations are positioned approximately every 2.5km along the marathon and half marathon courses, providing water and electrolyte drinks. The 10km event has at least two aid stations. It's recommended to carry your own nutrition gels or snacks for longer distances.
Can I register on race day?
Race day registration may be available, but it's strongly recommended to register in advance to secure your spot and receive a better entry fee through tiered pricing. Early registration also helps organisers with planning and ensures you receive all pre-race communications.

The Wheelchair Half Marathon is available, starting at 7:55 AM alongside the running events. This inclusive event follows the same scenic course around Lake Wendouree and through Ballarat's historic streets.
