Course Description

The ProFeet Portarlington 8km traces a route starting and finishing at The Esplanade along the Portarlington Waterfront, offering runners stunning views across Port Phillip Bay. Run on the Bellarine Peninsula, the course follows relatively flat foreshore terrain, making it accessible for a range of abilities. The waterfront setting provides a refreshing coastal atmosphere, with cool bay breezes typical for April. Weather & What to Pack

Late April in Portarlington brings cool autumn conditions typical of coastal Victoria. Expect temperatures between 10–17°C, with morning lows around 10°C at race time. Bay breezes can add a wind chill factor, so layer up with a light jacket or arm warmers you can tie around your waist mid-race. Rainfall is possible in April, so consider a water-resistant outer layer. Hydration needs are lower than summer events, but carry water if you run warm.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to be a GCCC member to enter?

No – non-members can participate as Invitational Runners. You'll need to complete an Invitational Runner form, available from the GCCC website, and pay the invitational fee in person at the race van on the day. Membership sign-up is also available on the day.

How does the handicap format work?

In a handicap race, runners are assigned staggered start times based on their estimated pace, so faster runners start later. The goal is for all participants to finish at roughly the same time, creating a more competitive and social event regardless of ability level.

Where do I pay my entry fee?

Members can pay online via the GCCC website using Square, or by card in person at the race van before 8:30 AM. Standard member race fee is $10.00, with a concession rate of $8.00 for students and pensioners. Invitational runners pay in person on the day.

What should I bring on race day?

Wear comfortable running attire suited to cool autumn weather. Bring your membership card or membership number if paying online. Water is recommended, especially if you tend to run warm. Arrive early enough to register and warm up before entries close at 8:30 AM.

Is the course suitable for beginners?

Yes – the Portarlington Waterfront course is flat and accessible, making it a great option for runners new to racing. The handicap format also means you're competing against your own pace rather than trying to keep up with faster runners, which creates a welcoming environment.
