Course Description

The Kuranda to Port Douglas (K2PD) trail race is a point-to-point course through the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area, starting off the Kennedy Highway in Kuranda and following Black Mountain Road through native rainforest, open eucalyptus forest and pine plantations, crossing picturesque creeks within Mowbray National Park before finishing on Four Mile Beach, Port Douglas. In 2026 the race reverts to its original 64km distance (including the Twin Bridges Track), run solo or as a 2-4 person relay team. The pyramid-shaped Black Mountain is a signature landmark, and the tropical rainforest is home to the endangered southern cassowary.

Getting There

The race starts on Black Mountain Road, approximately 200m from the Kennedy Highway turn-off. Parking is available at the start line. Travel time from Cairns CBD is approximately 30 minutes. Consider using transport options to the start line and back to your car at Smithfield Shopping Centre.

Weather & What to Pack
