Course Description
The Tolosa Half Marathon and supporting distances showcase the stunning diversity of Kunanyi's trail network, starting from Tolosa Park in Glenorchy. This authentic mountain trail experience takes runners through towering eucalypt forests, across technical rocky dolerite terrain, and over lichen-covered boulders. The course features excellent flow despite its challenging nature, with routes carefully designed to highlight the best of Tasmania's wilderness. Runners can choose from three distances: the full 21km Half Marathon for seasoned trail runners, the 10km Quarter for those seeking a solid challenge, or the 5km Taster perfect for newcomers to trail running. All routes demand self-sufficiency and bush confidence, with technical sections requiring careful footing and attention to navigation.
Quick Facts
Getting There
Tolosa Park is located in Glenorchy, approximately 10km north of Hobart's CBD. Take the Brooker Highway (A10) north and follow signs to Glenorchy, turning onto Tolosa Street. Free parking is available at Tolosa Park, but arrive early as spaces fill quickly on event day. Public transport is available via Metro Tasmania buses from Hobart to Glenorchy. Plan to arrive at least 45 minutes before your start time for registration and warm-up.
Weather & What to Pack
Early August in Tasmania brings cool winter conditions, with Glenorchy temperatures typically ranging from 4-12°C. Morning starts can be particularly chilly, often with frost or light rain. The trail can be muddy and slippery after recent rainfall, adding to the technical challenge. Dress in moisture-wicking layers with a waterproof outer shell, as weather can change quickly in mountain terrain. Trail shoes with aggressive grip are essential for the rocky, potentially wet conditions. Despite the cold, you'll warm up quickly on the climbs, so layering is key.
