About This Event
Wild&Co adventure race featuring navigation, trail running, and outdoor challenges. Events designed for adventure seekers in Australia's natural landscapes.
Course Description
Navigate your way through the Gold Coast's stunning coastal and hinterland terrain in this thrilling adventure race. Starting from Pirate Park at Palm Beach, two-person teams will tackle an unmarked, off-road course combining trail running, mountain biking, and kayaking. Using only a map and compass, you'll collect checkpoints across approximately 15km (Half Course) or 30km (Full Course) of diverse terrain. The Full Course features 5-7km of trail running, 10-15km of mountain biking, and 5km of kayaking, whilst the Half Course offers a more accessible 3-5km run, 5-7km bike, and 3km kayak. With up to 6 hours to complete the linear course, this event challenges your navigation skills, teamwork, and endurance against the backdrop of one of Australia's most beautiful regions.
Quick Facts
Getting There
Pirate Park is located on the Gold Coast Highway at Palm Beach, approximately 15 minutes south of Surfers Paradise. Free parking is available in the beachfront carparks along Palm Beach Avenue and nearby streets. Public transport users can catch the G:link light rail to Broadbeach and then bus 777 towards Coolangatta, alighting near Palm Beach. Arrive by 7:00 AM for registration and map handout, with the race briefing at 7:30 AM.
Weather & What to Pack
Mid-July on the Gold Coast brings mild winter conditions, with daytime temperatures typically ranging from 12-21°C. Expect low humidity and clear skies, though occasional cool breezes are common, especially near the coast. Mornings can be crisp with temperatures around 10-12°C at the 8:30 AM start. Dress in layers you can remove as you warm up during the race. The mild conditions are ideal for endurance events, but bring sun protection as Queensland's winter sun can still burn. Pack a warm layer for post-race as temperatures drop in the afternoon.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need navigation experience to participate?
No prior navigation experience is required, though basic map reading skills are helpful. Wild&Co provides waterproof maps at registration and offers a comprehensive race briefing at 7:30 AM covering navigation basics. The Half Course is specifically designed for beginners wanting to learn adventure racing skills in a supportive environment.
What equipment do I need to bring?
You'll need two mountain bikes per team and basic safety gear. Kayaks, PFDs (personal flotation devices), and paddles are included in your entry fee. Bring a compass, whistle, first aid kit, mobile phone in waterproof bag, nutrition, and hydration. Check the mandatory gear list on the Wild&Co website closer to race day.
Can under-18s participate?
Yes! Juniors are welcome as long as they're accompanied by an adult team member. There's a dedicated Junior age category (one team member under 18). The Half Course is particularly suitable for families wanting to experience adventure racing together.
What happens if we don't finish within 6 hours?
The 6-hour cut-off is when the course officially closes. Teams still on course will be required to return to the finish line. The winner is the first team to complete the full course, but many teams participate for the challenge and enjoyment rather than to race competitively.
What team categories are available?
Teams compete in Mixed, Female, or Male categories, with age divisions including Open (no restriction), Veteran (40+), and Super Veteran (55+). All teams must have exactly 2 members who stay together throughout the entire race.
