About This Event

Adventure Junkie trail and adventure running event. Challenging courses through scenic terrain for runners seeking adventure beyond the road.

Course Description

The Sprint Series Adventure Race at Nerang National Park delivers an exhilarating multisport challenge through the Gold Coast hinterland. Teams of two navigate on foot along 4WD trails and off-road paths, mountain bike through scenic bushland tracks, and kayak stable sit-on-top boats through calm waterways. The exact course remains secret until race day, with checkpoint locations chosen to showcase the area's most picturesque features. The Novice course covers approximately 3km running, 10km mountain biking, and 2km kayaking, whilst the Classic course extends to 5km run, 20km MTB, and 4km paddle, with optional advanced checkpoints for competitive teams. Both teammates must stay together throughout, making this as much about collaboration as endurance.

Getting There

Nerang National Park is located in the Gold Coast hinterland, approximately 15 minutes inland from Surfers Paradise via Nerang-Murwillumbah Road. Parking details will be provided in the race pack sent two weeks before the event. Consider carpooling as a team capacity is limited to 100 Classic and 50 Novice teams. Public transport options are limited in this area, so driving is recommended. Arrive early for registration and equipment collection at race headquarters.

Weather & What to Pack

June marks the start of Queensland's dry season, with Nerang typically enjoying mild winter conditions. Expect daytime temperatures between 12-22°C with low humidity and minimal rainfall. Mornings can be crisp, warming to pleasant conditions by midday. The Gold Coast hinterland may be slightly cooler than coastal areas. Pack layers for the early start, sun protection for exposed sections, and quick-dry clothing for the kayaking leg. Hydration remains important despite the milder temperatures, particularly during the mountain bike sections.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need previous adventure racing experience?

No! The Novice course is designed for first-timers with no experience required. Kayaks are stable sit-on-top doubles, and MTB trails are beginner-friendly. Optional 1-hour navigation and kayaking training is available on Saturday at 5pm before race day.

What equipment do I need to bring?

You'll need a mountain bike, helmet, running shoes, and compulsory safety gear detailed in the final instructions sent two weeks before. Kayaks, paddles, and PFDs are supplied. Check the equipment page on the website for the complete gear list and navigation tools required.

Can I compete solo or must I have a teammate?

This is a team event requiring two people who must stay together for the entire race, finding all checkpoints together. Categories include Mixed, Female, Male, and Family (Novice only, requiring one team member under 10).

When will I know the exact course details?

The course remains secret to maintain the adventure element. The race scheme and order of legs will be published two weeks before the event, whilst the exact course map and checkpoint locations are revealed only at registration on race morning.

How long does the race typically take?

The Novice course takes approximately 2-3 hours for midpack teams, whilst the Classic course runs 3-3.5 hours with optional advanced checkpoints adding extra distance for competitive teams. Slower teams are welcome to enjoy the experience at their own pace.
