Event Details
Course Description
The Heritage Bank Moggill Marathon takes runners through the scenic hills and bushland of Brisbane's western suburbs. The AIMS-certified course features challenging elevation with the notorious 'Mount Moggill' and rolling terrain throughout. The marathon consists of two laps of the half marathon course, starting from the top of Kangaroo Gully Road. The half marathon showcases Brisbane's rural western corridor with lush scenery and local community support. The 10km tackles the heart of Mt Moggill's rolling terrain, whilst the 5km offers a more manageable downhill start from Kangaroo Gully with a scenic loop. The 2km fun run provides a family-friendly circuit with plenty of local cheers. All courses feature multiple out-and-back sections creating a supportive atmosphere with runners encouraging each other along the way.
Getting There
The event starts and finishes at Westaway Park on Moggill Road in Moggill, approximately 20km west of Brisbane CBD. Drive via Moggill Road from the city or Centenary Highway. Free parking is available at the venue and surrounding streets. Public transport options are limited in this rural area, so driving or carpooling is recommended. Arrive at least 30-45 minutes before your start time to collect your bib, warm up, and use facilities. The first race starts at 6:00 AM.
Weather & What to Pack
May in Brisbane offers ideal running conditions with mild autumn weather. Expect morning temperatures between 12-18°C, warming to around 23°C by mid-morning. Humidity is generally lower than summer months, making for comfortable racing conditions. The early 6:00 AM start means cooler temperatures for marathon runners. Dress in light layers you can remove as you warm up. The hilly terrain and potential sun exposure mean hydration is crucial - take advantage of all water stations. Pack sunscreen and a cap or visor for sun protection, especially for the longer distances that extend into mid-morning.
