About This Event
Endurance challenge honouring Veterans and First Responders. Participants move for 6, 12, or 24 hours to test physical and mental barriers. Supports Young Veterans CQ.
Course Description
The Walking4Warriors Endurance Challenge takes place at Dennis Park, utilising the Tannum Seagulls Football Fields in Boyne Island. Participants tackle a continuous 2.5km loop course featuring predominantly grass surfaces with sections of dirt track and bitumen. The course presents natural variations in terrain with some uneven sections requiring careful foot placement, adding to the physical and mental challenge. Starting at 1800hrs (6:00 PM) on the Friday before ANZAC Day, participants can choose to endure for 3, 6, 12, or 24 consecutive hours, repeatedly circling the course whilst pushing through physical and mental barriers. The venue provides a supportive community atmosphere where civilians, veterans, and first responders walk side by side in unity and respect.
Quick Facts
Getting There
Dennis Park is located at the Tannum Seagulls Football Fields on Pioneer Drive, Boyne Island, QLD 4680. The venue is easily accessible by car with parking available at the football fields. Boyne Island is approximately 20 minutes from Gladstone via the Boyne Island Road. Participants must arrive at least 30 minutes before the 6:00 PM start time for sign-in and the mandatory event briefing. Public transport options are limited in this regional area, so driving is recommended.
Weather & What to Pack
Mid-April in Boyne Island typically offers mild autumn conditions with daytime temperatures ranging from 20-28°C, cooling to 15-20°C overnight. This is ideal endurance event weather, though participants in longer distances should prepare for the full day-night cycle. Humidity can still be present in coastal Queensland during April. Bring sun protection for the first hours, and layers for overnight participants. The aid station will be available throughout, but participants are responsible for their own nutrition and hydration strategy. Pack for changing conditions if attempting 12hr or 24hr challenges.
