Course Description
The Whale Rock Trail Run takes participants through the stunning trails of Lane Cove National Park, offering a genuine trail running experience in Sydney's northern suburbs. The 17km Challenge course features technical single-track trails with elevation changes, creek crossings, and native bushland scenery, with aid stations positioned at 4.5km, 9km, 12km, and 14.5km. The 6.5km Fun Run provides a more accessible trail experience, perfect for those new to off-road running, with support at the Whale Rock checkpoint at the 4km mark. Both courses are clearly marked with arrows, tape, and marshals to guide runners safely through the bush. Starting from Ern Holmes Oval in Pennant Hills, runners will experience the natural beauty of one of Sydney's premier national parks. Note that all aid stations are cupless to protect the environment, so participants must carry their own hydration bottle or pack.

Weather & What to Pack
March in Sydney typically brings warm early autumn conditions with average temperatures ranging from 18-26°C. Morning start times help runners avoid the peak heat of the day. Expect mild to warm temperatures with moderate humidity levels. The tree canopy in Lane Cove National Park provides natural shade along much of the course. Wear light, breathable running gear and sun protection including sunscreen and a cap. With cupless aid stations, carrying adequate hydration is essential - bring a hydration pack, bottle, or cup that can be refilled at checkpoints. Check the weather forecast closer to race day and adjust your gear accordingly.
