Course Description

The Ewen Maddock Dam courses wind through stunning natural bushland surrounding the reservoir in the Sunshine Coast hinterland. Runners tackle well-maintained single-track trails with a mix of undulating terrain, short climbs, and fast descending sections. The short course (8.2km) offers a taste of the scenic lakeside trails, whilst the long course (14.4km) takes you deeper into the forest with more challenging elevation changes. Expect beautiful water views, shaded bush sections, and the chance to spot local wildlife. The courses are professionally marked and timed, with aid stations strategically placed. Both distances finish back at Maddock Park where runners can enjoy post-race refreshments and the relaxed trail running community atmosphere.

Getting There

Ewen Maddock Dam is located in Mooloolah Valley, approximately 15 minutes west of the Bruce Highway. From Brisbane, take the Bruce Highway north, exit at Caloundra Road, then follow signs to Mooloolah Valley. Free parking is available at Maddock Park. Arrive early as bib collection opens at 5:20 AM and closes at 6:10 AM. The race briefing begins at 6:20 AM with wave starts from 6:30 AM. Public transport options are limited, so carpooling or driving is recommended.

Weather & What to Pack

March in Southeast Queensland typically brings warm, humid conditions with temperatures ranging from 20-28°C. Early morning starts mean cooler conditions at race time, though humidity can be high. There's a moderate chance of rain showers, particularly in the afternoon. The tree-covered trails provide welcome shade, but exposed sections can be warm. Wear lightweight, moisture-wicking clothing and a cap. Hydration is crucial in these conditions - drink well before the race and take advantage of aid stations. Apply sunscreen and consider insect repellent for the bushland sections.

Bib collection is on race day only at Maddock Park. Collection opens at 5:20 AM and closes at 6:10 AM sharp, so arrive early. Race briefing is at 6:20 AM with wave starts from 6:30 AM.

What should I bring on race day?

Bring trail running shoes with good grip, comfortable moisture-wicking clothing, a cap, sunscreen, and your own water bottle or hydration pack.
