Event Details
Course Description
The Clifton Beach 10km follows a scenic out-and-back route along the footpaths connecting Clifton Beach and Palm Cove. Starting from the sandy shores of Deadman's Gully, runners head north through the coastal suburbs, taking in ocean views and tropical greenery along the way. The turnaround point is at the iconic Palm Cove jetty, where a water stop awaits. The flat, paved course is ideal for achieving personal bests, though runners should prepare for North Queensland's warm evening humidity. With toilets available at both the start/finish and Palm Cove, and basic first aid on site, this well-organised event caters to walkers, recreational runners, and competitive athletes aged 14 and over.
Getting There
Deadman's Gully Park is located on the Captain Cook Highway in Clifton Beach, approximately 25km north of Cairns. Street parking is available along the beachfront and surrounding streets. Arrive by 5:30 PM to collect your race bib and warm up. Public transport options are limited; driving or carpooling is recommended. The park is easily accessible with clear signage from the highway.
Weather & What to Pack
February in tropical North Queensland brings warm, humid conditions with afternoon temperatures around 27-31°C, though the 6pm start means slightly cooler evening racing. Expect high humidity and possible afternoon showers or storms. The wet season is in full swing, so be prepared for muggy conditions. Wear light, breathable clothing and start hydrating well before race day. The water stop at Palm Cove jetty is essential. Apply sunscreen as there's still UV exposure in the early evening, and consider a cap or visor.
