About This Event

Running Wild's most breathtaking short course race through Blue Mountains National Park on single trails and stairs. Magnificent views of Wentworth Falls and Mt. Solitary. Part of Race 4 Short Course Series.

Course Description

Experience one of the most spectacular trail runs in the Blue Mountains, winding through Blue Mountains National Park on challenging single-track trails and iconic staircases. The course showcases magnificent views of Wentworth Falls cascading into the valley below and the imposing Mt. Solitary rising in the distance. Runners navigate technical bush trails, cross wooden bridges over mountain streams, and tackle the famous Valley of the Waters track with its steep stone steps. The terrain demands focus and agility, but rewards with pristine wilderness and breathtaking lookout points throughout. Both distances start from the historic Fairmont Resort in Leura, descending into native bushland before climbing back through eucalyptus forest.

Weather & What to Pack

Early February in the Blue Mountains typically brings warm summer conditions with temperatures ranging from 15-28°C. Being at 1000m elevation, Leura is generally 5-10 degrees cooler than Sydney. Mornings can be fresh before warming up quickly. Expect high UV levels and variable conditions - the mountains can bring sudden changes. Carry water for both distances as the trails offer limited shade. Apply sunscreen and wear a hat. Light, breathable trail running gear is recommended, with consideration for both sun protection and potential mountain showers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this suitable for my first trail run?

This course is challenging with technical single-track, steep stairs, and significant elevation changes. It's recommended for runners with trail running experience. Consider starting with Running Wild's easier events if you're new to trail running.

What should I bring on race day?

Bring trail running shoes with good grip, water (hydration pack or bottles), energy gels or snacks, sunscreen, hat, and a small first aid kit. The technical terrain requires proper footwear - road shoes are not suitable.

Are there aid stations on the course?

Check the official website for aid station locations and what will be provided. For these distances, typically water and electrolyte drinks are available, but carry your own nutrition to be safe.

Can I use hiking poles?

Running Wild events typically allow hiking poles, but verify on race day. The stairs and steep sections make poles attractive, though most runners complete the course without them.

What happens if weather conditions are dangerous?

The race may be modified or cancelled in extreme weather conditions such as severe storms, extreme heat, or fire danger. Check the Running Wild NSW website and social media for updates in the days before the event.
