Course Description

The marathon consists of four laps around Rottnest Island’s paved coastal roads, offering sweeping views of turquoise waters, white‑sand beaches and iconic limestone outcrops. The half marathon is two laps, while the 10km and 5km follow a single circuit that winds past historic quokka habitats and the island’s lighthouse. The 300 m Kids Dash takes place on a flat, shaded stretch near the finish area. All routes are on sealed road surfaces, well‑marked and supported by water stations, making the scenery as motivating as the challenge. Runners will encounter gentle sea breezes, occasional sand patches near the shoreline, and plenty of opportunities to spot the friendly quokkas that roam the island. Aid stations provide water, electrolytes and fruit, and the course is fully marshalled for safety. Whether you’re chasing a personal best or simply enjoying a scenic run, the island’s flat terrain and stunning backdrop create an unforgettable experience.

Weather & What to Pack

June is winter in southern Australia, and Rottnest Island enjoys mild winter conditions. Typical daytime highs are around 19 °C with overnight lows near 13 °C. Expect clear skies and gentle breezes, but bring a light jacket or long‑sleeve top for early‑morning starts and a hat for sun protection. Hydration is still important despite the cooler temps, so carry a water bottle or use the on‑course stations.
