About This Event

Family-friendly trail run at Raffertys Resort on the shores of Lake Macquarie, NSW. Choose from 12km, 22km, or 35km trail distances plus a kids fun run, winding through Wallarah National Park from calm lakeside to rugged Catherine Hill Bay coastline.

Course Description

Raffertys Coastal Run starts and finishes on the picturesque lakefront lawns of Raffertys Resort on Lake Macquarie. The course winds through Wallarah National Park, taking runners on a journey from the calm lake shore through bushland to the rugged historic coastline of Catherine Hill Bay and the Munmorah State Conservation Area. Expect varied terrain including bush trails, coastal paths, and some creek crossings. Three aid stations with water, Tailwind nutrition, fruit, and snacks are located along the course. The 35km event starts earliest at 8:30am with the 12km starting at 10:00am.

Getting There

Raffertys Resort is located on the shores of Lake Macquarie, approximately 1.5 hours north of Sydney. Take the M1 Pacific Motorway and exit at Doyalson, then follow signs to Caves Beach and Raffertys Resort. Event registration opens Friday 10 July from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, and again from 7:00am on race day Saturday. A minimum 500ml water bottle or hydration pack is mandatory — no cups at aid stations.

Weather & What to Pack

July on the NSW Central Coast is cool and mild with temperatures ranging from 7°C to 18°C. Conditions are usually pleasant for trail running, though recent weather can affect course conditions. Some sections may be muddy and creek crossings are possible — trail shoes with good grip are essential. Dress in moisture-wicking layers and bring a dry change of clothes. Light rain is possible but unlikely to be heavy.

Yes — the event starts and finishes at Raffertys Resort. Accommodation is available at the resort right on the start line, making it an ideal race weekend getaway. Book directly through the resort.

What mandatory gear is required?

All runners must carry a minimum 500ml water bottle or hydration pack to refill at aid stations. No cups are provided at aid stations. Carrying a mobile phone and basic first aid is also recommended.

Are there aid stations on course?

Yes, there are three aid stations with water, Tailwind Nutrition endurance fuel, fruit, lollies, potato chips, and portable toilets.

What happens if I injure another runner or find an injured runner?

Runners are expected to assist injured competitors. Provide assistance and ask a fellow runner to inform race officials at the next intersection. Report the injured runner's bib number to officials. Times are adjusted for runners who stop to assist.
