Course Description

The festival offers a variety of looped trail courses set on the outback around Robin Falls. Friday’s Nocturnal Outback 7km (7.3km, ~100 m gain) runs in darkness, demanding a head‑torch and offering steep, technical sections. Saturday features the Sunshine Outback 7km (7.2km, ~200 m gain) and the Big Outback 18km (18km, ~400 m gain) with three linked loops through gum‑lined tracks, sandstone outcrops and old rail lines. The Kids Outback 1.35km provides gentle loops for young runners. Sunday’s Bigger Outback 28km (28.2km, ~640 m gain) and Biggest Outback 56km (56.5km, ~1280 m gain) are multi‑loop courses with dozens of short hills, billabongs and rocky firebreaks, demanding solid trail shoes and navigation skills.

Getting There

The festival site is at 1720 Stuart Highway, Robin Falls NT 0822. From the north, turn right off the Adelaide River road after about 18 km and follow the driveway to the gate marked with the Run Your Outback sign. From the south, travel north from Pine Creek (≈94 km) and turn left before the railway overpass. Day parking is on the left side of the gate; the camping area is on the right. Arrive early to collect your bib and attend the mandatory briefing.

July is winter in Australia, but the Top End stays warm – average highs near 34 °C and lows around 21 °C with virtually no rain. Expect clear skies, strong sun and low humidity. Wear breathable, moisture‑wicking clothing, a light long‑sleeve for early‑morning chill, and a hat or sunglasses for sun protection. Hydration is essential even in cooler weather; carry plenty of water in a collapsible cup or bottle.

What gear is mandatory on race day?

All participants must bring a collapsible cup, flask or drink bottle. For the Friday night Nocturnal Outback 7km and the 56km race, a head‑torch is also mandatory. Trail shoes, personal nutrition, a snake‑bite bandage, whistle and a phone are strongly recommended.

What are the cut‑off times for each event?

Nocturnal Outback 7km – 2 hours (cut‑off 21:00). Sunshine Outback 7km and Big Outback 18km – approx. 4–5 hours (cut‑off 13:00). Bigger Outback 28km – 10 hours (cut‑off 17:00). Biggest Outback 56km – 11 hours (cut‑off 17:00).
