Event Details
Course Description
Start with a 200‑metre swim in the sheltered waters of Obelisk Beach, where the gentle surf offers a safe entry for all skill levels. Transition to a 9‑kilometre bike ride that loops three times along Chowder Bay Road, a quiet, traffic‑free stretch with stunning harbour views. The final leg is a 2‑kilometre run on the historic Middle Head Oval and surrounding bush tracks, featuring gentle undulations and panoramic outlooks over the Sydney Harbour National Park. The course is fully closed to traffic, making it ideal for beginners while still offering a rewarding challenge for seasoned triathletes. Participants can race solo or join a relay team of two or three.
Getting There
Obelisk Beach in Mosman is the race venue. It can be reached by car or public transport, with parking and bus options available nearby. For exact directions, parking information and recommended arrival times, please refer to the Balmoral Triathlon Club’s official website.
Weather & What to Pack
December is summer in New South Wales, so expect warm weather with typical highs of 22‑28 °C (72‑82 °F) and occasional peaks above 30 °C. Humidity can be moderate and sunshine is common, though a light sea breeze may occur near the harbour. Wear breathable, moisture‑wicking clothing, a hat and sunscreen, and stay well‑hydrated throughout the race. Morning temperatures are usually a few degrees cooler, so a light long‑sleeve or wetsuit may be comfortable for the swim, especially if the water is cooler. Bring plenty of water and consider a sun‑protective eyewear.
