Event Details
Course Description
Set against the dark Tasmanian winter, the Knockers Solstice trail starts at the lookout near the Forest Road car park on Knocklofty. The Enduro (11 km) and Sport (6 km) courses weave along wide fire‑trails and single‑track sections, featuring a new shared‑use trail across Noah’s Saddle and the scenic Knocksofty and Yellow Hippo tracks. The Explorer (4 km) offers a shorter, family‑friendly loop through native bushland. Runners will enjoy sweeping views of Kunanyi, the Derwent River and the glittering Hobart skyline, while spotting nocturnal wildlife such as wallabies and owls. The routes are well‑maintained, with a modest amount of technical terrain to keep the challenge engaging yet accessible.
Getting There
The event hub is at the lookout near the Forest Road car park on Knocklofty, just north‑west of Hobart. Participants can drive to the car park and walk to the start line. Public transport options are limited, so we recommend checking the official website for the latest parking information and any bus routes serving the area.
Weather & What to Pack
In late June, Tasmania experiences cool winter evenings with temperatures typically ranging from 5 °C to 12 °C (41 °F‑54 °F). Expect crisp, clear nights but also a chance of light rain and occasional gusty winds on the hills. Dress in layers, wear a warm hat and gloves, and bring a head torch with at least 300 lumens. Hydration is still important, so carry a water bottle.
