Course Description
The Turtle and the Lamb Trail Run threads through the lush rainforest of Dinden National Park, offering a mix of gentle undulating tracks and steeper climbs. Runners will navigate natural creek crossings, dense foliage, and occasional open ridges with panoramic views of the Cairns hinterland. The 19 km course tackles the park's more technical sections, while the 6 km and 3 km routes provide shorter, still scenic options that showcase the same natural beauty without the prolonged elevation gain. Expect well‑marked trails, occasional rocky footing, and plenty of fresh air.
Getting There
Dinden National Park lies about 30 km south of Cairns. From the city centre, follow the Bruce Highway south, turn left onto Dinden Road and follow signs to the park entrance. Parking is available at the main car‑park (small fee may apply). Limited public‑bus service runs to the nearby town of Babinda; most participants drive. Arrive at least 30 minutes before your chosen start time to collect your bib and warm up.
Weather & What to Pack
October is spring in Australia, and Cairns enjoys a tropical climate. Expect daytime highs around 30 °C and overnight lows near 21 °C, with moderate humidity and a low chance of rain. Light, breathable clothing, a hat and sunscreen are essential, and carry plenty of water. Early morning starts can feel cooler, so a light jacket may be useful for the start line.
