About This Event
A trail running festival set in the scenic Trawalla State Forest near Beaufort, VIC. With distances from 2km to 50km, it's perfect for families, beginners, and seasoned ultra runners alike. Everyone finishes with a medal.
Course Description
Starting and finishing at the Goldfields Recreation Reserve in Beaufort, the Pace the Pyrenees course winds around beautiful Beaufort Lake before heading into the stunning Trawalla State Forest. Runners follow well-established trail roads through native bushland, encountering a mix of gentle undulations and more demanding climbs and descents — the elevation profile varies by distance, so check the course map for your chosen event. The out-and-back loop format means supporters can cheer you off and welcome you home from the same spot, making it a genuinely festive atmosphere. The trails are accessible for beginners yet engaging enough to challenge experienced ultra runners taking on the 50km.

Weather & What to Pack
Early June in the Victorian central highlands typically brings cool to cold conditions, with daytime temperatures around 8–13°C and the possibility of overnight frost. Morning fog is common in the Trawalla area. Expect overcast skies and a reasonable chance of showers. Dress in moisture-wicking base layers, a lightweight wind or rain jacket, and consider gloves and a hat for the early start. Carry adequate hydration even in cool conditions.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need trail running experience to participate?
Not at all. The shorter distances — 2km, 5km, and 10km — are ideal for beginners and families. The courses follow trail roads through Trawalla State Forest, which are accessible and well-marked. The 25km and 50km events suit more experienced trail and ultra runners.
Is there a mandatory gear list?
Yes — a mandatory gear list applies, particularly for the longer distances. Check the official website at pacethepyrenees.com for the full requirements before race day. Common mandatory items for trail ultras include a hydration pack, emergency blanket, first aid basics, and a mobile phone.
What are the cut-off times for each distance?
Cut-off times are: 50km — 8 hours; 25km — 4 hours; 10km — 3 hours; 5km — 2 hours. The 2km kids' event has no stated cut-off. These are generous allowances, making the event accessible to run/walk participants.
Will there be aid stations on course?
Aid station details are not listed on the website. Check the course maps and event communications closer to race day for water station locations. For the 50km in particular, carry sufficient hydration and nutrition between any marked aid points.
What is the refund policy if I can't make it?
A 50% refund is available up until 15 May 2026. No refunds are issued after that date. If you're unsure about attending, consider transferring your entry — contact the organiser at info@pacethepyrenees.com to discuss your options.
