About This Event
Annual race walking carnival held at Stromlo Forest Park on a certified 1km criterium circuit. Open to elite and novice race and fitness walkers alike, with World Rankings Competition status for events 5km and longer.
Course Description
All Sunday races are held on a certified 1-kilometre circuit on the cycling criterium track at Stromlo Forest Park in Canberra's west. The smooth, sealed surface suits race walking technique with only a minimal rise at one end of the loop, making it ideal for consistent pacing and fast times. Spectators can follow athletes for the majority of each lap from the central infield area. Events of 5km and longer carry World Athletics Rankings Competition status, attracting elite walkers alongside enthusiastic novices — all sharing the same certified course in a genuine carnival atmosphere.

Weather & What to Pack
Canberra in early June is firmly in autumn-to-winter transition. Expect cold mornings with temperatures typically between 2°C and 13°C, with clear skies common but occasional frost possible at start time. Dress in warm, breathable layers you can shed as you warm up. Gloves and a beanie are recommended for the warm-up. Bring a windproof jacket for post-race. Hydration needs are lower than summer events but don't skip fluids entirely.
