Course Description

The 12km course follows a scenic coastal route from the golden sands of Bar Beach, winding along the harbour foreshore, through the historic Newcastle suburb of Carrington and finishing at Pat Jordan Oval. Runners enjoy a mix of flat beachfront sections, gentle undulating roads, and panoramic harbour views. The shorter 6km starts at The Station and the 2km family fun run begins at the finish line, making the day inclusive for beginners, families and seasoned athletes alike. The course is fully road‑surface, well‑marked and supported by enthusiastic local volunteers.

Getting There

The start line is at Bar Beach, a short walk from Newcastle's city centre. Pat Jordan Oval, the finish, offers free on‑site parking (around 30 spaces) and a nearby pay‑and‑display car park for additional vehicles. Public transport: take a train to Newcastle Station and a 10‑minute walk to Bar Beach, or a bus to the Carrington stop for the finish. Arrive at least 30 minutes early to collect your bib and warm up.

Weather & What to Pack

April is autumn in NSW, bringing mild temperatures of 12‑22 °C with occasional breezy conditions along the coast. Expect partly cloudy skies and low humidity. Dress in layers – a light long‑sleeve shirt, a breathable jacket, and a hat for sun protection. Warm‑up gloves are optional. Stay hydrated with water stations on the course, but you won’t need heavy sweating gear as conditions are usually comfortable.
