About This Event
A community 24-hour walk/run challenge at The Crest Athletics Track, Georges Hall, raising funds for youth mental health through Charlotte's Wish Scholarships. Join solo or as a team — all ages 8+ welcome.
Course Description
The Mayor's 24-Hour Challenge takes place on The Crest Athletics Track in Georges Hall, a standard all-weather athletics facility where participants walk or run laps continuously from 8:30am Thursday through to 9am Friday. The looped format means you set your own pace and distance — whether you're chasing kilometres or simply moving in solidarity. With a live DJ, special guest appearances and the energy of a community united for a cause, every lap feels meaningful. Night session participants can look forward to the atmospheric 'Light Up the Night' segment under the track lights. The flat, paved surface suits all fitness levels, from pram-pushing parents to seasoned ultra runners.

Weather & What to Pack
Mid-April in Sydney typically brings mild autumn conditions, with daytime temperatures ranging from 18–24°C and cooler nights dropping to around 13–16°C. Humidity is moderate and rainfall possible, so pack a light rain jacket for overnight sessions. Wear moisture-wicking layers you can add or remove as temperatures drop after dark. Sun protection (hat, SPF 50+) is recommended for daytime laps, and a headtorch or reflective gear is advisable for the overnight session.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to participate for the full 24 hours?
No — you can join for a few hours, a half-day session or the full 24 hours. There are dedicated Day Sessions and Night Sessions to suit different schedules. At least one team member must be on the track at all times for team entries, but individuals can come and go during their chosen session.
How much does it cost to enter?
Registration is free. Participants are asked to raise funds for Charlotte's Wish Scholarships through Step Into Action Foundation. Each dollar goes directly to providing mentorship and mental health support for young people in Canterbury-Bankstown.
Can children participate?
Yes — all participants must be aged 8 and over. There is also an Active Kids Club onsite for children aged 0–7, operated by Council's Children Services Team, so parents can complete their laps while younger kids are entertained and supervised.
What should I bring?
Wear comfortable walking or running shoes and bring layered clothing for the temperature change between day and night. Pack snacks, a refillable water bottle, sun protection for daytime, and a headtorch or reflective vest for overnight laps. Check the official event information on the Canterbury-Bankstown Council website for the full gear list and any prohibited items.
Can I come along just to watch and support?
Absolutely. Spectators are very welcome throughout the 24 hours. The event features a live DJ, special guest appearances and fun activities, making it a great community occasion even for those who aren't walking or running.
