About This Event
Run the edge of the Blue Mountains on a 17.5km point-to-point trail linking Wentworth Falls, Leura and Katoomba via World Heritage cliff tops, waterfalls and historic villages. Walkers welcome. A perfect pre-UTA tune-up.
Course Description
The Grand Cliff Top Race traces one of Australia's most spectacular walking tracks from start to finish. Beginning at Wilson Park in Wentworth Falls, the 17.5km point-to-point route follows the iconic Grand Cliff Top Walk through to Katoomba, passing through Leura along the way. Expect exposed escarpment edges with sweeping valley views, shaded forest trails, thundering waterfalls, and a healthy dose of staircases as you negotiate 700 metres of cumulative elevation. The course weaves through World Heritage-listed Blue Mountains National Park, with the sandstone cliffs and eucalypt canopy providing a dramatic backdrop throughout. A cut-off of 1:00pm applies.
Quick Facts
Getting There
Wilson Park is located in Wentworth Falls, approximately 100km west of Sydney via the Great Western Highway (M4/A32). Street parking is available near the park. Wentworth Falls train station is a short walk away, with regular Blue Mountains Line services from Central Station — allow around 2 hours. Aim to arrive by 6:30am to allow time for check-in.
Weather & What to Pack
April in the Blue Mountains brings mild autumn conditions, with morning temperatures typically ranging from 8–16°C in Wentworth Falls. Mornings can be crisp and foggy on the escarpment, warming through the day. Expect conditions to feel cooler on exposed cliff edges. Wear moisture-wicking layers and carry a light wind jacket. Carry at least 1–1.5 litres of water; check the website for aid station locations.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this a point-to-point race — how do I get back to the start?
Yes, the course finishes in Katoomba, not at the Wilson Park start in Wentworth Falls. Participants should plan transport from Katoomba back to their vehicle. The train line connects both towns frequently, or arrange a car shuffle with fellow runners in advance.
Can walkers enter the Grand Cliff Top Race?
Yes — walkers are explicitly welcome. The event has a cut-off time of 1:00pm, so plan your pace accordingly for the 17.5km distance with 700m of elevation gain.
What gear should I bring for the race?
Trail shoes with grip are strongly recommended given the technical cliff-top terrain, stairs, and forest trails. Carry a hydration vest or handheld water bottle, a light wind/rain layer, and a charged phone. Check the mandatory gear list on the official registration page before race day.
Is this a good pre-UTA (Ultra-Trail Australia) event?
Absolutely — the race description specifically calls it out as a pre-UTA tune-up. The course shares similar Blue Mountains terrain, elevation profile, and trail character to UTA routes, making it ideal preparation for runners entered in the May UTA event in Katoomba.
Where can I register and how much does entry cost?
Registrations are managed through Race Roster at raceroster.com/events/2026/113619/grand-cliff-top-race. Entry fees are not listed on the tourism page — visit the Race Roster event page for current pricing and registration deadlines.
