Event Details
Course Description
The race starts at Mountain Creek Campground and follows a rugged 4WD track before tackling the Staircase Spur up to Mt Bogong’s summit. Runners descend T‑Spur, cross Big River and climb Duane’s Spur to the Bogong High Plains. After the Langford Gap aid station the course traverses alpine ridges, drops to the Cobungra River, then ascends Swindler’s Spur before the final climb to Mt Hotham’s fire tower. Expect steep ascents, rocky sections, alpine streams and sweeping vistas of the Victorian Alps. The 29km is the last segment of the 64km, while the 35km covers the first half of the full distance.
Getting There
There is no bus service to the Mountain Creek start line; limited parking is available at the campground, so car‑pooling from Tawonga or Mt Beauty is encouraged. Bus transport is offered for 29km and 35km runners between Langford Gap or Mt Hotham and Mt Beauty – a ticket that includes the bus must be purchased. Weather & What to Pack
January is summer in Victoria’s alpine region. Daytime temperatures on the high country typically range from 15 °C to 25 °C, but can drop below 10 °C at higher elevations, especially early morning. Expect strong sun, occasional afternoon thunderstorms, and low humidity. Runners should wear breathable layers, a sun hat, sunscreen, and carry enough water and electrolyte supplies for changing conditions.

How do I register and what are the fees?
Registration is handled via the Humanitix ticketing portal. Fees range from $190 for the 29km (no bus) up to $330 for the 64km with bus service. A small booking fee is added at checkout. Check the event page for current pricing and availability.
What start times and bus options are available?
The 64km and 35km races start at 5 am; the 29km starts at 12 pm. No bus runs to the start line. Bus transport is provided for 29km and 35km runners between Langford Gap or Mt Hotham and Mt Beauty, and for 64km runners from Mt Hotham back to Mt Beauty – a ticket that includes the bus must be purchased.
What mandatory gear must I bring?

Do I need prior ultra‑running experience?

Accommodation options include Tawonga (10‑15 min), Tawonga South (15‑20 min) and Mt Beauty (20‑25 min) from the start. Towonga Tourist Park is a popular choice. The Mountain Creek Picnic Area offers limited camping but only a pit toilet and creek water, so alternative lodging is recommended.
