Event Details
Course Description
The race consists of a 4.2 km circuit that starts and finishes at the base‑camp beneath the hill. Runners tackle a steady 300 m elevation gain on a mixed grassy‑and‑rocky surface, with a steep descent that tests both leg strength and footing. The loop is repeated hourly, so pacing, recovery and strategy are as important as speed. Spectators can watch from the shaded rest area, while on‑site physios, ice‑baths and hydration stations keep athletes ready for the next lap. The surrounding countryside offers wide‑open views of central Victoria’s rolling farmland, adding a scenic backdrop to the brutal challenge.
Getting There
Pyalong sits on the Northern Highway about 90 km north of Melbourne. From the city, take the M80 to the Northern Highway (B75) and follow signs to the Pyalong race site. Parking is available on‑site for $30 per car; car‑pooling is encouraged. The nearest train station is Kilmore; a local shuttle runs on race day. Arrive at least two hours before your first lap to set up your base camp and collect race gear.

Weather & What to Pack
October is spring in Victoria, bringing mild temperatures typically between 12 °C and 22 °C with occasional showers and plenty of sunshine. Expect variable conditions – cool mornings, warming afternoons and the occasional gust of wind. Dress in layers: a breathable base, a light jacket for early‑hour laps, and a hat or sunglasses for sun protection. Stay hydrated and carry a waterproof jacket just in case of rain.

Official WebsiteFrequently Asked Questions
What is the race format?
Runners complete a 4.2 km loop with a 300 m climb once every hour. The loop is repeated until only one participant remains. Each hour you must start a new lap; missing a lap or failing to finish within the hour results in elimination.
Can I bring a support crew?
Yes – you may have up to three supporters share your 3 m × 3 m base‑camp area. They can provide food, drinks, gear changes and morale, but must stay within the designated space.
What gear do I need?
Bring trail running shoes, a race bib, headlamp (for night laps), emergency whistle, mobile phone, and enough clothing to cover your private parts. A hydration pack, weather‑appropriate layers and a sleeping mat for your base camp are strongly recommended.
Is there food and medical support on site?
A coffee cart, food trucks and BBQ stalls operate during the day, though availability may be limited on later laps. On‑site physios, ice‑bath facilities and a first‑aid station are provided for recovery and injury care.
What if I can’t finish the race?
If you need to withdraw, you can sell your ticket to another runner (subject to a $75 transfer fee) or apply for a credit toward a future event. Contact the organisers at info@hardcoreharrys.com.au for assistance.
