About This Event
Sydney's community running festival along one of Australia's most scenic coastal courses through Sandringham, Ramsgate Beach, Brighton Le-Sands and Kyeemagh. Raises funds for the Heart Foundation and local sports clubs.
Course Description
The Bayside Run Festival showcases one of Sydney's most spectacular coastal courses, starting from Depena Reserve in Sandringham. Runners traverse the stunning foreshore path through Sandringham, Ramsgate Beach, Brighton Le-Sands and Kyeemagh, offering breathtaking Botany Bay views throughout. The predominantly flat, sealed pathway makes this an excellent course for personal bests, whilst the coastal scenery provides endless motivation. The ultra and marathon distances feature multiple laps of the scenic route, allowing supporters to cheer runners at various points. With a 6:30am start, participants enjoy cooler morning temperatures and witness the sunrise over the bay. The course's accessibility and picturesque setting make it ideal for both competitive runners chasing times and recreational participants seeking a memorable coastal running experience.
Quick Facts
Getting There
Depena Reserve is located on Russell Avenue, Sandringham, in Sydney's southern suburbs. Street parking is available along Russell Avenue and surrounding streets, though arrive early for events of this size. The venue is accessible via public transport - catch a train to Rockdale Station (approximately 2.5km away), then take a local bus or taxi. Alternatively, Brighton-Le-Sands station is similar distance. Plan to arrive at least 45-60 minutes before the 6:30am start to collect your race number, use facilities, and warm up comfortably.
Weather & What to Pack
Late May in Sydney brings pleasant autumn conditions, ideal for distance running. Expect morning temperatures between 12-17°C at the 6:30am start, warming to 18-21°C as the event progresses. With reduced humidity compared to summer months, conditions are typically comfortable, though coastal areas can be breezy. Dress in light layers you can shed as you warm up. The early start helps avoid midday sun, but UV levels can still be moderate - consider sunscreen for longer distances. Pack a light jacket for post-race as coastal winds can feel cool when you stop moving.
