Course Description

The Top Of The Range Adventure Trail Run takes runners through the scenic trails of Picnic Point in Toowoomba, offering a stunning natural setting atop the Great Dividing Range. The courses feature a variety of terrain with rolling hills, technical sections, and open trail segments that showcase panoramic views across the Lockyer Valley. Each distance completes laps of varying lengths, with a halfway checkpoint providing water and refreshments. Trail runners will experience the quintessential Queensland bushland atmosphere whilst tackling moderate elevation changes. The courses cater to all abilities, from the challenging 15km Conquerer to the family-friendly 2km Trekker, all starting and finishing at the Picnic Point precinct with its excellent facilities and post-race atmosphere.

Getting There

Picnic Point is located on Tourist Road, approximately 7km east of Toowoomba's CBD. Follow Tourist Road from the city centre, with clear signage to Picnic Point. Ample free parking is available at the Picnic Point car park. The race precinct opens at 6:30am for bib and timing chip collection, with race briefing at 7:15am. Arrive by 6:45am to allow sufficient time for registration and warm-up before the first race starts at 7:30am.

Weather & What to Pack

February in Toowoomba typically brings warm summer conditions with temperatures ranging from 18-28°C. As a highland city sitting over 600m above sea level, Toowoomba enjoys milder temperatures than coastal Queensland, though mornings can still be warm and humid. Early morning starts mean cooler conditions at race time, but temperatures will rise as the morning progresses. Sun protection is essential - apply sunscreen, wear a cap, and bring sunglasses. Hydration is critical, so bring your own reusable cup for the on-course water stations and consider carrying a water bottle for longer distances.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do I need to bring on race day?

You must bring a reusable cup for water stations (no paper cups provided). A water bottle is optional but recommended for 10km and 15km distances. You'll receive a timing chip on the day which must be returned after the race to avoid a $25 replacement fee. Sunscreen, hat, and appropriate trail running shoes are also recommended.

Are there age restrictions?

The 10km and 15km distances have a minimum age of 12 years. The 5km and 2km distances are open to all ages. The 2km Trekker is specifically designed as a kids' race and is completely free with a finisher's hat included.

What's included in my entry fee?

All paid distances (5km, 10km, 15km) include a finisher's medal. The 2km kids' race is free and includes a finisher's hat. Timing services are provided for all distances, and there will be water stations on course plus a coffee cart at the finish area.

Is there a cut-off time?

Yes, all races must finish by 10:30am. If you're planning to walk, the 5km Adventurer distance is recommended as the best option. This gives walkers approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes to complete the 5km course.

Can I transfer or cancel my entry?

Transfers to other runners or shorter courses are free if done before 10 March 2025 through your Race Roster registration. Refunds requested after 1 February 2025 will incur a $20 fee. The event has a clear cancellation policy detailed in the race waiver.
