About This Event
Townsville Road Runners club event in tropical North Queensland. TRR organizes weekly runs across various Townsville locations, welcoming runners of all abilities. Club members and visitors welcome - check townsvilleroadrunners.com.au for registration details and run times.
Course Description
The Townsville Fairfield Water Run takes runners through the Fairfield area of Townsville, starting from Poolwerx on Bowen Road. As part of the Townsville Road Runners' regular off-season programme, the course offers two distance options to suit different fitness levels. The 8km route provides a solid mid-week training run through suburban streets, whilst the 4km option is perfect for newcomers or those preferring a shorter distance. The early morning start time helps runners beat the North Queensland heat and humidity. The course is typically flat to gently undulating, making it accessible for runners of all abilities. Both distances finish back at the starting point, where participants can enjoy a post-run coffee and socialise with fellow club members.
Quick Facts
Getting There
The race starts at Poolwerx on Bowen Road in the Fairfield area of Townsville. Free street parking is typically available along Bowen Road and surrounding streets. Arrive at least 15-20 minutes before the 6:00 AM start to allow time for parking, registration, and warm-up. Public transport options are limited at this early hour, so driving or carpooling is recommended. The venue is easily accessible from Townsville's CBD, approximately 10 minutes by car.
Weather & What to Pack
March in Townsville brings late summer conditions with warm, humid mornings. Expect temperatures around 24-26°C at the 6:00 AM start, quickly warming as the sun rises. Humidity levels are typically high (70-80%), and there's a chance of early morning showers or storms. Wear lightweight, moisture-wicking running gear and apply sunscreen before the race. The early start time helps avoid the peak heat, but hydration is crucial - drink plenty of water in the days leading up to the event and consider carrying water for the 8km distance.
