Course Description

The Paluma Village Trail Run starts in the picturesque Paluma Village and winds through the lush Wet Tropics World Heritage rainforest. Runners will pass the historic Paluma Dam, traverse shaded big‑timber forest, and cross open cattle country before finishing at the historic tin‑mining settlement of Hidden Valley. The 6km route is a gentle loop suitable for beginners, while the 10km and 20km courses add extra climbs, creek crossings and technical single‑track sections, delivering a rewarding blend of scenery and challenge for intermediate and seasoned trail runners.

Getting There

From Townsville, take the Bruce Highway north to the turn‑off for Paluma (approx. 70 km). Follow the signed road to Paluma Village where parking is free in the village carpark. Public buses run to the nearby town of Mount Isa Road, but most participants drive. Arrive at least 30 minutes before the start to collect your bib and warm up.

Weather & What to Pack

October is spring in Queensland, bringing warm daytime temperatures of 20‑28 °C with occasional showers and moderate humidity. Expect plenty of sunshine interspersed with brief rain‑spells in the rainforest. Dress in moisture‑wicking layers, a lightweight waterproof jacket, and sturdy trail shoes. Carry enough water and a hat for sun protection, but be prepared for cooler, damp conditions on higher sections of the course.
